Most people wonder, "What should I wear to my session?" I look forward to the opportunity of helping provide style suggestions for your entire family--like a personal styling assistant! Styling is one of my favorite parts of the session! If you love the aesthetic of my photography, one of the things you may love most, that you might not even realize, are the carefully planned clothing selections! When you schedule your session with me, you have access to my growing style closet of women and girls clothing. Also, I share the links to all of my favorite online shops and help you choose affordable, yet stunning options--clothing you will want to wear over and over again! I am here to help guide you every step of the way. Mom is usually the person who books the session and I like to style her and any daughters first. Personally, I love long, flowing dresses. They just photograph beautifully! A dress offers a simple advantage because it's already a complete outfit! Once we choose what mom and the girls would like to wear, we style the other family members around them. Your family will most likely already have a few items in their closet that coordinate! Something I like to keep in mind while planning attire is the location of your photo session. The location and clothing colors should complement one another. For example, if you choose a beautiful green field, you will not want to wear a lot of green as to avoid blending in with the scenery! You want to stand out! One or two pieces may be ok, however, rust/burnt oranges, mustard, teals, burgundy, black, browns/tans, dark denim and ivory all work well in this environment and provide a nice contrast. Neutrals such as ivory, khaki, tan and beige look great among all of the colors and locations! I highly recommend avoiding too much bright white, pastels, gray, chambray and cool toned colors. These tend to have an overall lackluster and dull effect in images. I always lean toward those beautiful warmer tones. Color scheme is very important as well as styles and material! For men and boys, I strongly recommend avoiding polos which can tend to look like a school uniform! Henley styles, button downs, knit, certain flannels, and plain tees are all great options! Linen, cotton, and poplin are nice fabrics! Generally, a palette of three colors with some added neutrals will be the perfect combination. Solid colors typically photograph very nicely, however, I love to incorporate textures and patterns, such as a pretty floral, possibly two, depending on the prints. Accessories such as hats and jewelry are eye-catching and add a lovely element to photos! Also, don't forget about shoes! Tan and neutral colors look great. White shoes will draw attention immediately to your feet, so I recommend not wearing bright white shoes. My goal is to take all of the guesswork away from you, while designing your perfect session together. You never have to worry about organizing this on your own. I send mood boards/collages of our ideas so you can see what looks best together! I hope this helps! My heart desires to create and deliver the absolute highest quality of images to you. I truly believe that thoughtfully planned clothing plays an important role in the process of creating your beautiful image gallery and can transform your family portraits to an extraordinary level!
